Product Junkie: Hair

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration: Orchid & Coconut Milk shampoo and conditioner, TRESemme Tres Two Hairspray,
S Factor Smoothing Lusterizer defrizzer and tamer, Bumble&Bumble Surf Spray, TRESemme Refresh Dry Shampoo, Garnier Fructis Surf Wax, Phillips Three Row Teasing Brush

First I should say that I don't use each of these products every day, below I've given a brief run-down on each product and why I like it:

Because my hair is super thick and a weird mix of course and fine strands, I have always had a very hard time finding shampoo and conditioner that moisturizes but doesn't weigh my hair down. HH's Orchid&Coconut Milk shampoo and conditioner seems to work pretty well and I really like how it smells. I wash my hair twice a week with this and let it air dry overnight.

In the AM once my hair is dry, I add a dab of S Factor Smoothing Lusterizer for shine and frizz control. If my hair is still damp- which it usually is- I'll blow dry it for about 5 minutes after adding the Smoothing Lusterizer.

Between shampoos I use TRESemme dry shampoo. I love how this smells and it soaks up any extra oils in my hair and makes it super easy to style.

Bumble&Bumble Surf Spray adds just the right touch of texture. I spray this on after towel-drying my hair.

TRESemme hair spray is light enough to keep my styles in place but doesn't flake off or get sticky.

If I want my hair to be even more messy, I'll add some Garnier Surf Wax and twist individual sections. I like this product because it has a matte finish and doesn't leave my hair looking greasy.

To finish I'll tease the back a little with a brush similar to this.

What hair products do you use?

thanks for the post! Have you used other brands of dry shampoo? Is TreSemme the best?

I'm so happy they invented dry shampoo. I haven't used it yet, but just the thought is comforting :)

I've been hearing about the TRESseme dry shampoo everywhere lately. Sounds like I have to try it! I had been using bumble & bumble dry shampoo, but it's 1) expensive and 2) pigmented, so now that I have highlights I'm afraid it will just make my hair look dirty.

I have a zillion shampoos and conditioners and I pick those based on what I decide my hair needs whenever I shampoo (about every 3 days). But styling, I basically have three: I use bumble & bumble thickening spray when I'm straightening my hair, Herbal Essences Totally Twisted gel when I'm letting it stay wavy, and Elnett hairspray for whenever I need that.

I just bought myself that exact brand of dry shampoo, and it's pretty spectacular. I hate over-washing my hair, but it used to be so hard because it's thick and gets oily fast (especially my bangs). Very happy I found this product :o)

Other than that, I pretty much switch up my shampoo and conditioner depending on my budget and whatever looks interesting. Don't use a whole lot of product, maybe a little wax or shine gel for fly aways.

i have always wanted to try that surf spray! i heard it was amazing, and the video they have on the website for it is really cool. you should check it out if you ever get a chance.

i don't use any hair products other than pantene pro-v shampoo and conditioner. they work great! something i've been wanting to try is moroccan oil. i heard it was amazing and pretty much makes your hair super soft. thanks for the post! it gave me some great ideas for new products to try.

I love any of the bar shampoos from Lush. They're stuff is amazing. My favorite product from there (although not a hair product) is Each Peach bar lotion, its PHENOMENAL!

sorry, more questions:

when you air dry overnight, do you put your hair up or tie it back at all? I have lots of long hair like you, and it gets crazy if I just sleep on it wet and down.

what kind of brush do you use, not for teasing but for daily detangling?

Lush Squeaky Green Shampoo Bar, daily in the summer, every other day in the winter. I lather up my hair, rinse it out, put my hair up in a towel for 20 minutes or so to soak up most of the water, and then blow dry it before I'm about to leave. If I use conditioner, my hair gets really flat and gross looking. D:

I like Kiss My Face Everyday Shampoo- all natural and I really only use it 2-3/week. Followed by Bumble and Bumble conditioner (they're all good).

This is so neat, seeing as how everyone loves and is amazed by your hair!
I might go and get some dry shampoo now...

I'm pretty compulsive about washing my hair so I do it every day to second day. I just use the regular Fructis shampoo, no conditioner as it leave my hair feeling and looking greasy. After I wash it I towel dry it and add a touch of Pantene curl defining mousse, which add a touch of curl to my otherwise straight but thick hair.

Most days I leave it at that because I shower at night and let it dry while I sleep. The next day i flip my head upside down, spray with a bit of the Pantene hairspary in my roots, give it a quick shot by the hair dryer and I'm good to go

Loved this post! You have the best hair, so I'm sure everyone (including myself) is dying to know what products you use. I just did a review of that dry shampoo on my blog, too!

It's weird, but I'm so fascinated with learning what products people use, which means, obviously, this post rocked my world. I had no idea TresSemme made dry shampoo--must look out for that!

I use Garnier Fructis shampoo & condition, Morrocan Oil when I get out of the shower and Bumble & Bumble prep spray if I'm blow-drying, or homemade sea salt spray if I'm not.

Have you tried other surf sprays besides the B&B ones? Does it make your hair sticky or weigh it down. I have wavy-straight, thin hair (but a lot of it) and I’m trying to find ways to bring out the waviness.
Right now I use B&B Seaweed Shampoo & Conditioner, and I work in some Sally Hershberger Style Primer Wavy Hair when I towel dry, and I sleep on it. But I find that the waviness falls flat by the end of the day, wah! Any suggestions?

I just recently saw an ad for the Tresemme dry shampoo and wanted to give it a try. My hair is really thick, too, and I only wash it about 3x a week. I've used Ojon dry shampoo, but it didn't last long and made a mess of anything in its spray range. I'm definitely going to pick up a bottle after reading your review.

Moroccan oil is pretty amazing..i have pretty fine hair, so i can't use it everyday..but when i do it leaves it feeling pretty amazing. I also use dry shampoo.. i've been using TIGI's rockaholic. i'm a hair product junkie, so i'm always adding to my collection...recently i picked up Redken's rootful.. it adds lots of volume..also Sebastian makes a heat protection spray called trilliant ( it's got small specks of glitter in it so it leaves hair nice and shiny too!)
For shampoo i tend to stick to the pro stuff, because i'm always coloring it... Joico is one of the best i've used and it's not too pricy. Right now i've got some blonde in my hair so the purple shampoo is a must!!

I love your hair, there's allways so much "volume". I never used dry shampoo, maybe I should try it as my hair ends are dry and washing everytday doesn't help them to look better.

I can't go into a store without leaving with one hair product or another. I have straight, thin hair, so finding products that moisturize and degrease without weighing my hair down.

I just read about TRESemme's dry
shampoo and I can't wait to try it!

Joico hair product, more specified, the K-PAK Reconstruct collection. And I just got addicted to Moroccanoil products (http://www.moroccanoil.com/en.html). I'll actually make a post about those products! Oh and I just got a question for you Orchid Grey. As a photographer, can you tell me which filter do you use for your pictures to make them look a little "vintage". I just started a fashion blog (http://www.blonde-rose.blogspot.com) and I still hesitate to post pictures I took because I can't find an image filter satisfying me! Thanks a lot!
