How was your weekend? On saturday Chris and I drove down the Cape to visit my grandparents and celebrate my step-mother's birthday. I love Cape Cod so much, I wish we had more time to spend down there. The area they live in is so pretty; the beach is only a five minute drive, which actually is the same distance that Chris and I live from the beach, but somehow their beach is exceptionally prettier. One thing I love about visiting them is that there is no pressure to hang around the house, after getting to their house a little early we were shooed out the door to take a drive down to the ocean. Chris had never been to the Cape before, so I had fun showing him around.
It was freezing out! I bundled up with a big sweater under my coat, and a warm vintage collar. I love layering with this jacket, it's so easy to make it feel totally different depending on what you wear underneath, I love how the sweater cuffs on the sleeves make it look. My flannel from AA is probably the one work item that I wear constantly outside of work (along with tights), the flannels are so thick and warm this year, and I love the color combination of dark red, navy, and mustard. Another thing that I highly recommend are the super opaque tights, the colors were expanded recently, and they're perfect for winter because of how thick they are, no more doubling up on tights this year! Am I the only one who feels warmer wearing tights and skirts than pants in the wintertime?
I loved exploring the dunes, I always feel so much better when I'm around the ocean and marshes, even if it was cold. The rest of the day was spent- how else?- eating food with family and catching up with everyone who was in from out of town. A busy, but excellent way to spent the weekend!

I am so much warmer in tights and skirts than in pants. I do the double tights, plus legwarmers or kneehighs. All while trying not to look too much like the crazy knitting lady. At least I'm warm!
I'm undecided on the pants versus tights, I think I'm not warm enough either way. I'll definitely look into the new super opaque tights, my old ones from American Apparel are pretty sheer.
Your Cape photos are beautiful, but I can't believe you were out in that cold! I still can't believe how cold it got here all of a sudden.
I'm OBSESSED with double tights! Actually sitting at work wearing the exact same American Apparel pair right now, under some herringbone patterned black tights. You're totally right, they're way warmer than pants, but everyone thinks I'm crazy on cold days.
I am definitely going to have to get some super opaque tights. My tights are pretty thin but I still wear them with skirts in the coldest of weather! I just get so tired of wearing pants in the winter.
Your photos are beautiful by the way!
I'm going to have to look into those tights. I agree that they are sometimes warmer in the winter than pants. People never believe me when I say that though.
I love all the layering going on in this look. So cozy! I am also loving the new bangs!

such gorgeous photos.
love the layers and the fur collar.
you inspired me to finally wear mine!
And I thought I was going crazy when trousers felt colder than my triple layered tights ;)
Mind you, I have thickened my calfs so much with all these tights that I broke the zipper on a pair of boots trying to do them up. At least I blame the tights, not my calfs at all. :)
Love these shots. Looking great :)
Oh my gosh, tights and a skirt are SO much warmer than pants! I work at a zoo and was walking to lunch yesterday and saw one of our keepers walking outside with SHORTS on - granted he works in an indoor area of the zoo but it was 17 degrees outside! I commented that he looked cold and he said he was probably warmer than me because of my tights - I was thinking "yeah, right!"! Tights are so warm!
Wonderful photos and I love this look...and the scenery!
I find tights warmer than pants up to a point. Once it gets really cold, or rather, really cold and windy, then I reluctantly reach for the pants...
I love this outfit but it makes me miss winter so much, here it's almost summer and I'm already tired of the heat and humidity.
really loving your jacket and the setting of your pictures! so very new england which you cant get here in northern cali! although the wetlands does come pretty close.
xo,

tights!!!
love this fur.
You're wearing all of my favorite colors right now : ) Love this look!
My weekend was a good one - it was my last weekend of non-craziness now that we're into the last two weeks of school.
this looks so super cozy. i'm not sure what i like better, tights with skirt or jeans. i think it def depends on my mood, but i can't stay warm in the winter no matter what i wear! i love your fur collar! i just got a really big furry one and can't wait to wear it.
Those layers are fantastic! I need to start wearing my own vintage collars soon.
I am really digging your bangs. Love the photos...Chris seems to be so patient in taking them. Great post. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes
your outfits have been blowing me away lately! I've lived in NE my whole life yet have never been to the cape. I must change this...
I love your coat so much!! I definitely need something warm and gorgeous like that!!

Just want to say I love those bangs! And, I'm in the same boat -- tights and skirts are much warmer in the winter. The wind goes right through pants!
I love the photos of you in the long grass. The textures are amazing.
This looks like the perfect outfit for a chilly day at the beach. I'd love to be so close to the sea.
Photo's location is wonderful, your look is so perfect, comunion with the place! Love so much!

I love the texture and dimensions your sweater cuffs and collar add to your jacket! You're the best at layering, dear!
This place looks so pretty and cozy. You're lucky you get to live so close to your grandma, too!
I love the way your hair blends in with the fur collar!
Awww seeing the photos of the Cape is making me pretty sad that I'm leaving Boston. I've really enjoyed spending long weekends on the Cape during my tenure here. I suppose it will still be there for vacations!
As for tights v. pants. I'm a tights gal. Not necessarily because they're warmer, but because I just feel uncomfortable and constricted in pants. I'm going to have to check out AA tights. They look super opaque. I've been relying on double tights, and I always overestimate how comfortable it will be to wear two pairs. Looks like it might be worth the investment.
Looks like you had a lovely weekend. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy whenever I wear tights in the winter, but I swear the wind goes right through jeans!
I agree! Tights are especially great if it is rainy. As I find if they get wet, they will dry a lot quicker than pants.
Just found you! Thanks to Selective Potential.... so glad I did!

Love your layered look here..and photos with light are great cute blog!

I completely agree - tights are much warmer than pants. I'm really into sweater tights lately, they feel like pajama pants but don't make me look like a bum! I think this outfit is great - it's the perfect color scheme for this time of year!
Très belles photos, j'adore.

these photos are stunning! i can just feel that hazy winter sun from looking at them. i love the colors in your outfit- the olive green with maroon is a gorgeous combo. ~joelle
I love this- you look so cozy! The scenery is beautiful. (:
This outfit looks really warm and comfy. I like your bangs too! :)
These photos are so amazing. I love the light and how serene you look. And, of course, the cape is fantastic.
I'm a big believer in tights instead of pants in the winter, too. Something about how fitted they are and the fact that they aren't cotton just makes me feel much cozier. I get a lot of crazy looks, but it's worth it.
I love your fur collar!
