I'll be the first to tell you these aren't the best photos ever. And I almost didn't post them, but I chose to post them for a reason. Here it is: I've been really sick of my wardrobe lately. I'm ready for fall, like everyone else. Foolishly wishing away warm, sunny weather in favor of brisk days, cold weather I know I will be sick of in a couple of short months. As I stood in front of my closet this morning, hemming and hawing over what to wear, searching for something new and exciting, that little voice in the back of my head spoke up: "Look at all the things you have, that have gone unworn these past few months."
And it's true, I've been neglecting a good portion of my closet in favor of new styles. So, while the weather is warm, I'm making the effort to put these unworn pieces to work, dusting them off. And this rosy dress is one of those pieces. Much shorter than what I tend to gravitate towards lately, but with a cardigan and oxfords, I didn't feel too scandalous, or even worse, too young.
This isn't my all-time favorite outfit, and my hair is a mess (though I actually like it this way), but it's reality, and we all have these days. In other news, this past weekend was awesome, and I'll hopefully have some pictures to share with you from Saturday's race.

I appreciate that you posted these photos. Reality is, well, real, and I appreciate people who keep it real. That's not to say that I don't love the fantasy of fashion; I absolutely do, but it's not why I visit blogs. I want to see real people going about their lives while looking fabulous.
And, I'm a big fan of messy hair, so I quite like these photos! ;)
I like the photos too, and I'm glad you posted them. I hear you about being sick of summer though, and summer clothes. I'm ready for fall. Tired of sweltering. Thanks for your honesty and genuineness. I like reading things that aren't all bouncy happy sunshine all the time.
I think you look great! I really like messy hair, I would do that more with mine if I had your volume. I feel the same way about my closet sometimes, but it's always nice to pull out an older piece and give it some action (sorry...that sounds dirty...but I don't mean it to be. haha)
I think these photos are better than you think :) I love the rose pattern of your dress, and your outfit does remind me of fall with the mustard/orange/brown hues.
Man, oh man do I know how you feel about fall. As much as I love summer, fall is definitely my favorite season for dressing and I am beyond ready for the cooler temps.
That being said, I really love this outfit! Maybe because there is a hint of fall in there with the cardigan and oxfords, or maybe because it's definite something I would wear, but I have to say - This is an August favorite!
I don't know whatchu talkin' about, lady! I love this outfit--it looks so perfect with the long cardi and those shoes. it's like a summer/fall hybrid, haha. and messy hair is the way to gooooo
I actually like the pics & love your hair! It all looks so cool and casual, but the outfit is well put together, cute and looks comfy.
Oh, My
I think you look pretty :) I'm a big fan of that dress and your outfits don't have to be crazy to look good. Thanks for posting these anyways :)
But I absolutely LOVE this outfit. It's definitely something I'd wear far too often if it were in my closet!
I know how you feel! I have been doing the same thing in the mornings and just feeling so uninspired. You still look great though. -Heidi http://fabricandfrosting.blogspot.no/
i have countless dresses that i realize i have not worn even once this dreadful sweat season.... it is almost so hot, that i stopped caring at some point and can barely recall how i've been clothing myself.
the floral pattern and short skirt are definitely jovial and youthful, but the accessories are a bit more mature and harsh and funky, so it all balances well. brava.
and your hair is always fabulous...

Love this outfit and your hair looks perfect to me!
We still haven't had a summer in England :o(
All but given up on the idea of warm weather now...
Oh goodness I want that dress-- it's just perfect. I'm so glad you posted this outfit, it's marvelous! I totally know what you mean about being sick of your summer wardrobe though!
love the dress! you look amazing and so does your hair!

I actually thought these pictures were stunning (especially that first one - love messy hair). I know what you mean about hesitating to show the reality in a world that's so focused on the fantasy, but it's nice to see some of the casual, daily-life side now and then.
Funny because as much as I've loved recent posts, this is a standout for me. Love it.
I know how you are feeling! I dressed too warm for the weather today and I guess it's just my way of telling myself that I'm ready for fall lol

I think you look lovely, Jen, and I really like your hair. You always look trendy and nice, it doesn't matter what you wear :)
You look stupendous -- hair, outfit, jewellery... A great balance of vintage/preppy, girly/boyish, summer/fall!
Thanks for the inspiration, again!
i actually really really like this look! i think the green from the sweater really makes the flower pattern pop. it looks really cute. if this is a bad day for you then i'm jealous =P
Love the arrow bracelet.
i love your dress. :)

Lady, you are more beautiful than you know! These pictures really capture a soft, relaxed side of you I think. I'm so glad that you shared them because I've been feeling the same way. What exactly is age appropriate and not too scandalous while still being cute... I think you've hit the nail on the head with this one.
XOXO
I love this outfit, you look fabulous! :)

I can SO relate, I've definitley almost not posted certain photos, or not been 100% passionate about what I might be wearing.. but I think this outfit turned out great, the cardy & shoes were a perfect choice, and I too am all about keeping it age appropriate. Hope your week is awesome & I can't wait to see the photos from the race!! xo V
Yay I'm glad you're ready for fall...because I'm ready for YOUR fall clothing. So excited to see what you whip up:) I love the idea of searching back into your closet (and for that matter I also love the idea of voices telling you to do things). I did that this morning. Although the outcome was not as cute as yours. I ended up wearing an old jean jacket to my super professional executive office, and now I feel really out of place haha. It's okay though, my boss is Canadian :/
I've been feeling the same way lately. I've definitely been having a style crisis identity - I'm not sure what I want to wear (EVER!), what sort of style I want to represent... it's terrible! For some reason I feel like if I change my style daily (I tend to dress on mood), that people will find it strange. How frustrating!
Regardless, I adore this outfit.

I actually love this outfit! I like how the colors subtly hearken to fall, while still being part of a summer ensemble :) I've been ignoring a sizable portion of my closet, too...I keep wanting to buy new things, but I feel like I shouldn't buy too much until I can appreciate what I already have.
