Tiny Bloom

In this outfit:
Dress: ModCloth (find it here)
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell (old)
Belt: Thrifted Vintage (gift from mom)
Necklace: Vintage/Antique ($20)
Bag: Thrifted vintage Coach ($10-ish)
Bracelet: Vintage (had it since I was a kid)

Do you ever find yourself thinking about "future vintage"? When I was younger, I remember going through boxes of my mom's old stuff from the 70's, while most of it only fit during my middle school years (my mom was way tiny), there are still those few pieces left over that have gained heavy rotation in my closet now. I find myself thinking about this whenever I purchase a new piece of clothing. Even though we're not planning on having children anytime soon, I still find myself evaluating almost every new piece based on it's Future Vintage potential. Will this be something that some future young person will flip out over? Of course, there's no way to tell for sure, but I think there's merit in attempting to evaluate a new item's staying power.

This dress, to me, is full of Future Vintage potential, along with just being completely amazing in the here and now. Let me tell you, I am in love. I know I've professed my love of maxi dresses before, but I'll say it again, I love them. I feel great in them. And I think it's important to have those articles of clothing that you can fall back on, knowing that you'll feel confident wearing what ever it may be.

Also, on a side note, this necklace is made of carved bone, which I think is a strange morbid contrast to the daisies. And I really like that.

Summer Simplicity

In this outfit:
Top: Thrifted ($6)
Skirt: Madewell ($35 sale)
Wedges: MIA from ModCloth (2009)
Belt: J.Crew ($10 sale)
Bracelets: thrifted & gifted
Bag: Vintage from Brimfield ($35)
Earrings c/o Noble Town Vintage

Happy Tuesday! Did you all have a nice weekend? Ours was exactly what Chris and I needed. We even had a whole two days off, together, which is incredibly rare, and I took full advantage of having three days off myself. Just as I planned, I did some shopping- though only came away with a vintage funeral home cart we'll use as a drink caddy (pictures to come because as you can probably imagine, it's amazing)- ate lots of food, hung out with friends, and generally avoided the internet at all costs. The weather was incredible, in the 90's! On Sunday we did lots of house and yard-work, and it was worth the sweat and almost-tears that housework in 90 degree weather will cause, I feel like our place has finally come together.

I've been loving any combination of blue and white lately, this one one of those very warm days last week that just called for simplicity. And when simplicity is needed, you can't really go wrong with chambray and linen.

Thank you also to those who left kind words on Saturday's post, I hope those of you who also experienced less-than stellar weeks last week have much better times in the days ahead. Things are definitely looking up over here.

Things I Love

No Life Lately post this week, because frankly, "LIFE" lately hasn't been that great, in fact it's been downright cruel, so what I really want right now is to forget that this week ever happened. You with me? I'm diving into this three day weekend like it's my freaking job: I'm making sangria and lots of cold salads, enjoying the incredibly warm weather, and probably doing some sale shopping too. So in honor of my impending shopping therapy, here's what I loved this week:

I think I've posted about this lime green dress from Spotted Moth before, but it deserves a second mention, the perfect hot weather dress:

This floral top from Lulu's, perfect with jeans or cut-offs.

This floral dress from Ruche would be the perfect thing to wear to a summer wedding. Plus, it's on sale!

This geometric necklace from Le Lapin D'Or would be perfect with a simple sundress.

This vintage skater dress from Bluesville, USA is the perfect basic.

A few more:

// I published a new styling post on the ModCloth blog this week and love how it came out. I also covered a portion of the Make the Cut Collection process

// I can't wait to try this braided hairstyle this summer, so lovely!

// As the weather warms up, I miss the ocean more and more, i can't wait to dive in to the freezing cold Atlantic this summer!

// Handmade shoe heaven. Seriously. I've fallen hard for these.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend!

Bold Blue

In this outfit:
Dress c/o Lulu's @ TXSC
Belt: J.Crew (sale)
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell (2011)
Necklace: Brimfield Flea ($1)
Gold cuff: Thrifted ($2)
Beaded bracelets: gift from Punky

Thank god it's Thursday. I am so ready for this week to be over. I'm not gonna lie, it hasn't been a good one. I've been simplifying things as much as possible lately, I cleaned out my closet, cleaned out our office, and have been making a conscious effort each morning to get up early, slow down, and choose my outfit for the day with purpose (i.e. not just throw a bunch of stuff together). I've had this blue dress in my closet from the Texas Style Counsel Conference back in March, and I'm so happy the weather has been warm enough to wear it. I don't own any other items in this bold blue hue, and it was definitely a step beyond my comfort zone, color-wise. I've been trying to add bolder pieces to my wardrobe lately, and this dress was a good start.

Have a lovely Thursday!

Faithful...

In this outfit:
Dress c/o Lulu's (similar)
Vest: Vintage hand-me-down
Sandals: Marshall's ($24)
Belt: AA ($16)
Necklace: Vintage from defunct shop
Bracelets: Various

...like, Old Faithful. As in, I love this dress to pieces. As in, I wear it constantly and fear the day it finally disintegrates. Ok, awkward start to a post, but seriously, this dress has quickly become one of my style staples. There's so much you can do with a simple black maxi dress. I've worn it countless times and each time it still feels fresh- at least to me. This day I had actually intended to just go simple, with just a brown belt and bracelets, but as I looked in my closet I saw this vest, which I've had forever and haven't worn yet. It seemed like a nice pairing, so there you go. I added it last minute before running out the door to work, and didn't regret the added dose of color.

Do you have a style staple? Something that you wish you had bought in multiples because you wear it so much?

Over the Weekend: Drive-In's and Flowers

I'm going to go relatively wordless today. This weekend was great, we saw the Avengers at the drive-in, I did some thrift shopping, and there was lots of porch time with those beautiful peonies. The weather was incredible.

Thank you to every one who left me music suggestions on my last post, I can't wait to check them all out!

Have a beautiful Monday

High-Waisted for Lack of a Better Title

In this outfit:
Tank c/o Thief & Bandit
Lace Top: Vintage (mom's)
Jeans: Vintage ($10 Avalon Ex.)
Wedges: Buffalo Ex. ($40)
Bag: Vintage ($7 thrift)
Cuff: Thrifted ($2)
Belt: AA ($16)
Earrings c/o Noble Town Vintage

Maybe it's the weather, but I've been in such a dress mood for the past couple of months, I feel like I've been neglecting the pants-portion of my wardrobe. Do you ever get fixated on a specific piece of clothing? Anyways, I bought these amazing vintage jeans a few months ago, and finally dragged them out of hiding this week. If you can't tell already, they're really, really high-waisted. So high-waisted that they actually reach my natural waist, which is fine until about 4 o'clock in the afternoon at which point I felt like I needed to rip them off my body due to strangulation- a swift reminder of why I prefer dresses and skirts.
